Like Bird-in-Hand
and other QuaintVillages, Bell
Buckle is named for pictorial symbols that were used in the early
years. There are various stories about who first used the bell and
buckle symbols here and why. The railroad depot was built in 1853,
and the town was incorporated in 1856.
The railroad
brought a major stockyard here and the population grew to 1,000.
Much of the early Victorian railroad town has been preserved and
restored. Today Bell Buckle is known for walking horse farms, the
Webb School (1880s), and arts and crafts festivals.
