Crater
Lake is in a collapsed volcano. Don't fear though. The volcano last
erupted 7,700 years ago. The lake is the deepest lake in the
USA and seventh deepest in the world (1,932 feet at its deepest
point) and about 6 miles wide. The water has a remarkably dark
blue appearance.
Due
to the high elevation and heavy snowfalls, this 183,224-acre
national park is not always accessible in the winter.
Most people visit in July or August. Even then, you should
take a sweater. You will learn about the geology at the
visitor center and drive to the overlooks.
The
park is remote. Allow plenty of travel time from hotels or
other stops. There is food service in the park in the summer,
but the menu is quite limited. We did not see any other
restaurants anywhere near the park. |

Why
shop online?
Prices
and selection
are often better
from these Web
sites than in your
neighborhood stores. Many
of them offer
free packing and
shipping to
your
door or to your
gift recipient. So,
you can save
time, gas, and
money. Merchant
sites must
meet high security
standards to
advertise
on QuaintPlaces.com.

Did
you know?
When
you place an
order from these

commissions
do not increase
the cost of your

purchases
made within a few
days
after
your

commissions for us.
(Please do not delete your cookies.)
These
commissions, plus sales of our
own photos and cards, are
necessary
to help defray the
cost of maintaining QuaintPlaces.com,
which currently
operates at a loss.
Your
purchases will
help us provide
more
information
and photos about
quaint places.
