OldeTowne

Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario

Travel attraction lodging dining unique gifts royalty-free stock photography

This small historic town was the first capital of Canada.  It was burned to the ground during the War of 1912, but was promptly rebuilt and has been well preserved since.

Today, it is a popular upscale destination that hosts 600,000 tourist annually.  The town maintains its quaint character and intimate atmosphere by protecting its historic structures, planting flowers along the streets, restricting traffic, and prohibiting hotels and chain stores.  There are about 300 bed and breakfast inns here.  Parking is limited, so plan to walk from shop to shop.  The shopping is outstanding.  In addition to the restaurants, galleries, and boutiques, you will find Irish, Scottish, and British shops.  Several artists live and work here.

The nearby Niagara Falls area sees 14 million visitors per year and is very commercialized.  The countryside along the river, with its vineyards and peach orchards, is very scenic.

Why shop online?

Prices and selection are often better from these Web sites than in your
neighborhood stores.  Many of them offer free packing and shipping to
your door or to your gift recipient.  So, you can save time, gas, and
money.  Merchant sites must meet high security standards to advertise
on QuaintPlaces.com.

Did you know?

When you place an order from these merchants, they contribute a small
commission to QuaintPlaces.com.  These commissions do not increase
the cost of your purchases.  Only purchases made within a few days
after your initial "click" to their sites generate commissions for us.
(Please do not delete your cookies.)

These commissions, plus sales of our own photos and cards, are
necessary to help defray the cost of maintaining QuaintPlaces.com,
which currently operates at a loss.

Your purchases will help us provide more information and photos about
quaint places.
