This
little mountain art town is much quieter than nearby Blowing
Rock. We like the easy (and free) diagonal parking
here. Most of the buildings along Main Street are over
100 years old and house a mix of art galleries, antique shops,
and older businesses.
West
Jefferson is the home of the county arts council. You will
find original local crafts, musicians, Little Theatre productions,
and public murals by local artists.
West
Jefferson has the only cheese plant in North Carolina, and you can
take a tour. We have heard from two independent sources that
Smoky Mountain Barbeque, at the edge of town, serves the best
barbeque in the region. Local folks are also proud of the
honey they produce. |
