The
Southern Pines area, also called the sandhills, is probably best known for
golf and
horse racing. The area is also becoming famous for its
pottery. It does not feel densely populated, partly because of the
many golf courses. Many fine bed and
breakfast inns are sprinkled throughout the area. Downtown Southern Pines is a Mecca for shopping and
dining. Nearby Pinehurst Village is smaller and quite upscale.
The historic district of Aberdeen is also small, close by, and has some
nice features. Sanford is a little drive north. Even if you don't golf or like horse racing, you will probably enjoy exploring this area. |
