Cape May, New Jersey

(a QuaintVillage)

Travel attraction lodging dining unique gifts royalty-free stock photography

Cape May calls itself the nation's oldest seashore resort.  It is probably best known for its 600 restored and colorfully painted Victorian structures, many of which are B&Bs.  Old-time gas street lights, cobblestone, and horse-drawn carriages add to the charm.  The town is a National Historic Landmark, and you can take trolley bus tours of the historic district.  The canal, harbor, and marina are well sheltered from the ocean.  Consider taking the ferry to Lewes Delaware, an OldeTowne, if time permits. Allow at least 2 hours for the ride each way.

Cape May is a beach town, but there is so much to see and do here that visitors come year round.  Christmas is particularly festive.  There are fewer parking meters in the winter months.  You will find many antique shops, fine art galleries, and one-of-a-kind craft shops sprinkled around downtown, the marina, and West Cape May.
