This very small
town was devastated by the Civil War. 23,110 men died
or were wounded here on September 17, 1862, and there are more than 350
monuments and markers to their memory. Today Sharpsburg looks much
as it did in this early 1920's postcard.

Antietam National Battlefield nearly
surrounds Sharpsburg, and is clearly the main attraction.

In town, the ice
cream parlor has good ice cream at low prices. See the nearby cavern if time permits.

For arts and crafts, don't miss nearby Shepherdstown,
West Virginia.
Many visitors to
the battlefield also visit Harpers Ferry, West
Virginia, to learn
more about the Civil War. Harpers Ferry is 15 miles from
Sharpsburg.

Why
shop online?
Prices
and selection
are often better
from these Web
sites than in your
neighborhood stores. Many
of them offer
free packing and
shipping to
your
door or to your
gift recipient. So,
you can save
time, gas, and
money. Merchant
sites must
meet high security
standards to
advertise
on QuaintPlaces.com.
|
Did
you know?
When
you place an
order from these
merchants, they
contribute a small
commission to QuaintPlaces.com. These
commissions
do not increase
the cost of your
purchases. Only
purchases
made within a few
days
after
your
initial "click" to
their sites generate
commissions for us.
(Please do not delete your cookies.)
These
commissions, plus sales of our
own photos and cards, are
necessary
to help defray the
cost of maintaining QuaintPlaces.com,
which currently
operates at a loss.
Your
purchases will
help us provide
more
information
and photos about
quaint places.
