Berea, Kentucky, USA

Berea calls itself "The Folk Arts and Crafts Capital of Kentucky." This is probably not overstated. At least 40 professional craftspersons live and work here, not to mention the crafts students at Berea College. The state also has an Artisans' Center in Berea, that you will want to see. Many of the crafts reflect the region's Appalachian Mountain materials and cultural heritage.

Most of the shops, studios, and historic structures, including the Visitor Center, are in Old Town. But also see Chestnut Street and the College Square. Appalachian music and crafts go hand-in-hand, so expect to hear dulcimers and bluegrass music in some of the shops.
