St. Marys, Georgia, USA

Saint Marys is a nice little town where nature lovers go to take the boat to Cumberland Island. The island is 3 miles wide by 18 miles long. Grayfield Inn on the island is particularly nice, and there are also fine inns in town. Saint Marys is quiet, except perhaps during festivals, and always friendly. Parking is free.

Shopping here is enjoyable and there is plenty for history buffs to see. We have visited several times and plan to return.

Cumberland Island

Access:

If you are not a guest of Greyfield Inn, the only access to Cumberland Island is by passenger ferry boat operated by the National Park Service (7 days per week, March-November). It only makes the trip from St. Marys twice per day. Seats may be booked as early as a month in advance. Call for reservations. 888-817-3421 $7-12 per person plus $4 fee.
